How to Wear Statement Jewelry Without Feeling Overdone
Ok…You've seen the necklace. Or the oversized earrings. Or that incredible cuff.
You love it.
And then comes the little voice:
Is this too much?
I hear this from women all the time. They love statement jewelry on someone else, but when it comes to wearing it themselves, suddenly they aren't so sure.
Here's what I believe: statement jewelry doesn't have to feel overdone. In fact, when it's styled well, one bold piece can make getting dressed incredibly simple.
The secret isn't wearing less interesting jewelry.
It's knowing how to let a great piece do the work.
Start with one statement
You don't have to wear everything at once.
If you're wearing a bold necklace, try smaller earrings. If you choose oversized earrings, you may not need a necklace at all. If you're wearing a beautiful cuff or statement ring, let it have some breathing room.
Think of it as choosing the star of the outfit.
Everything else can support it.
That doesn't mean you can never wear multiple bold pieces together. You absolutely can. But if you're just beginning to experiment with statement jewelry, starting with one focal point is an easy way to feel comfortable.
Keep the rest of the outfit simple
This is probably my favorite way to wear statement jewelry.
Give me a white button-down, jeans and an incredible necklace any day.
Simple clothing creates space for interesting jewelry. A black dress, a solid sweater, a great blazer or even a basic T-shirt can become the perfect backdrop for something bold.
And here's the best part: you don't have to buy an entirely new outfit.
Sometimes changing your jewelry is enough to make something you've worn dozens of times feel completely different.
Pay attention to proportion
Statement jewelry doesn't necessarily mean enormous.
It means noticeable.
A sculptural ring can make just as much of a statement as a large necklace. A beautiful cuff can completely change a sleeveless dress. An interesting pair of earrings can be all a simple outfit needs.
The key is balance.
If your clothing already has a lot happening—bold patterns, embellishment, dramatic necklines—you may want to choose a statement piece that doesn't compete with it.
But with simple clothing? That's your opportunity to have some fun.
Wear statement pieces during the day
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that our bolder jewelry was supposed to wait for dinner, a party or a special occasion.
I disagree.
One of my favorite combinations is statement jewelry with everyday clothes.
Wear the earrings with your white shirt.
Put the cuff on with jeans.
Wear the ring to lunch.
Pair the necklace with a simple sweater.
The contrast between something casual and something beautiful often makes an outfit feel more modern—not more dressed up.
Your favorite jewelry shouldn't spend most of its life waiting in a box for somewhere important to go.
If you love it, that's usually your answer
I think this is the part that matters most.
As women, we can spend a lot of time wondering whether something is appropriate for our age, whether it's too bold, whether people will notice us or whether we can "pull it off."
At some point, those questions get exhausting.
Maybe the better question is simply:
Do I love how I feel when I wear it?
Because confidence changes the way jewelry looks.
When you're constantly adjusting a necklace or wondering whether your earrings are too much, you feel uncomfortable.
But when you put something on and think, Yes. This feels like me?
That's completely different.
Ready to Make a Statement?
This is exactly why I created the Icon Collection. Each piece was designed to have presence—to feel bold, intentional and confident without needing a special occasion to wear it.
The Icon woman doesn't wear jewelry to blend in. She chooses pieces that feel like her: strong, interesting and completely comfortable taking up a little space.
